《紅河谷》（Red River Valley）為19世紀的西方民謠歌曲 。
歌曲原作者已不可考，而現今發掘出最早將此曲子寫成歌名《紅河谷》的歌詞手稿上，發現在頁面下方有注釋著“奈哈（Nemha）1879年、哈蘭（Harlan）1885年”（兩者為艾奧瓦州西方的城鎮），被認為是最接近此曲流傳的時間 。加拿大民謠研究家Edith Fowke則從搜集的一些軼聞里得知，這首曲子在1896年前、就已在超過五個以上的加拿大省份里流傳著，另外曾于1929年翻唱過此曲的歌手Jules Verne Allen則認為這首歌應是由從賓夕法尼亞州一帶流傳 。
《紅河谷》流傳至今亦被改寫成許多不同的歌名歌詞內容，如1896年被James J. Kerrigan改寫為《在燦爛的莫霍克谷》（In the Bright Mohawk Valley）于紐約發行 ， 或是在1925年被Carl T. Sprague翻唱成《牛仔情歌》（Cowboy Love Song），另外也有被曲名為《燦爛的薛爾曼谷》（Bright Sherman Valley）、《燦爛的月桂谷》（Bright Laurel Valley）等等，而改編成中文歌詞流傳的版本則為《微風吹過原野》 。

這首red river valley ， 范繼淹譯配，范繼淹這個人似乎是呂叔湘的學生 。英文原文和中文意思差不多是一樣的，但是我覺得英文版遠沒有中文版好聽 。詞好！唱的也好！ 中文歌詞更加樸素雅致，堪稱英文詩翻譯的經典 ， 至今讀來仍然令人心動 。

這首已流傳了一個世紀的歌曲 ， 人們對于它的誕生地依舊頗多爭議 。有人認為歌中唱的“紅河”是指德克薩斯州的紅河，所以1936年和1941年拍攝的與歌曲《紅河谷》同名的影片，就是以德克薩斯州的紅河為外景，并且把《紅河谷》作為主題旋律貫串于整部影片 。也有人認為“紅河”是指紐約州的莫哈河 ， 因為有位開拓者杰姆斯·克瑞根于1896年發表的一首填詞歌曲就和這首《紅河谷》內容極為相似 。還有人認為，紅河是指由加拿大西部流入溫尼佩格湖的那條河流……
